Skin Cancer Clinic

In Australia, we have the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. This is predominantly caused by exposure to UV (ultra violet) radiation from the sun.

squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer, second image Skin cancers that are caused by UV radiation can be divided into two groups. These are non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) and malignant melanoma (MM). The most common skin cancers are the basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and their variants.

People who have attended solariums, or have a past/family history of skin cancer, are immune-suppressed, have a large number of abnormal or dysplastic moles, are also at a higher risk of developing skin cancers.

Treatment for skin cancers include:

  • Surgical excision
  • Moh’s Surgery
  • Curettage and cautery
  • Cryotherapy (superficial BCCs, Bowen’s disease)
  • Photodynamic therapy
  • Imiquimod cream
  • Radiotherapy

Most of these treatments are available at Camberwell Dermatology’s Skin Cancer Clinic. Your Dermatologist will advise which treatment is suitable for your diagnosis.
