KTP/Intense Pulse light

Our KTP Aura laser outputs a 532nm wavelength which is ideal for treating broken facial capillaries, rosacea, angiomas, and superficial pigmented lesions. Used alone or in combination with the IPL [link] and QS Duolite, most facial redness, capillaries and pigmented blemishes can be treated at Camberwell Dermatology.

The 532nm wavelength laser selectively targets hemoglobin in blood vessels, and melanin in the skin. It produces clinical improvement by heating blood vessels and selectively destroying themby a process termed photothermolysis. Although results are very often seen after one treatment, multiple treatment sessions are generally necessary for optimal clearance.

Consultation Process

  • Your dermatologist will discuss whether the Aura laser is appropriate for you
  • Discuss expectations of treatment
  • Discuss the number of required treatments and the overall costs
  • Assess the anaesthetic requirements
  • Discuss the importance of sun protection pre-treatment and post-treatment

Treatment Process

  • Removal of makeup, sunscreen and moisturisers
  • Ultrasound gel applied to skin
  • Treatment laser to capillaries +/- IPL treatment
  • Zimmer cooler applied during and post laser treatment for comfort and protection of top layers of the skin from thermal injury

Post –Treatment

  • Mild swelling and redness in treatment areas
  • Sensation of mild sunburn post treatment
  • Ice-packs to be applied to treatment areas intermittently
  • Emollients and sun-protection are essential
  • Redness and swelling from treatment usually settle within 2-4 days
  • After pigmented lesions treatment, crusts may develop and resolve within 7 days
  • Results from treatment usually seen within a week
