Fractional CO2 laser

In recent years, factional CO2 laser resurfacing has revolutionized skin resurfacing laser treatment. It rates as the number one anti-ageing breakthrough, according to WebMD. With fractional CO2 laser treatment, skin regains its tone, reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles and acne scarring.

Unlike traditional skin resurfacing methods which resulted in long recovery times and frequent complications, fractional CO2 laser therapy reduces downtime from weeks to days, by using a less traumatic method of resurfacing.

Our DEKA Smartxide DOT laser ablates the skin with hundreds of tiny pillars of laser energy. These pillars penetrate the skin deep into the dermis to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. At the same time, the microscopic spaces between the pin-point lasered sites, allows the skin surface (epidermis) to heal rapidly.

Consultation Process

  • Assessing overall suitability for CO2 fractional laser resurfacing
  • Assessing and discussing expectations of treatment
  • Assessing the anesthetic requirements (topical/inhaled/nerve blocks)
  • Discussion of what to expect on treatment day
  • Discussion of number of treatment(s) likely to be required
  • Discussion on cost of procedure
  • Any patients with active or past herpetic infection are prescribed antiviral treatments.

Treatment Process

  • One hour pre-laser, topical anaestheic is applied
  • Treatment laser (1 or 2 passes) performed generally in under one hour
  • Zimmer cooler applied post laser for comfort

Post –Treatment

  • Swelling, redness and tiny white dots
  • Unusual to develop oozing or weeping
  • Emollients are essential
  • Vigorous sun protection
  • Microscabs generally fall off after 3-4 days
  • Make up can be used

CO2 laser – continuous mode

Using a 1mm spot size, our DekaSmartxide CO2 laser can also be used in continuous mode for surgical procedures in an ablative mode.
It is an excellent choice for small lesions such as skin tags, small seborrhoeic keratoses, warts and other lesions where precision allows minimal damage to surrounding skin.
